How can I link my experiences with why I want to study it at university?

This is a common issue with many personal statements - they mention previous experiences that are relevant to the subject they want to study (ie. I visited a historical exhibition!) but fail to link the experience to how it has helped prepare them to study it at a higher level. I suggest using a three-step method in trying to solve this issue: what did you do, what did you learn from it, and why does that make you a better candidate?
