Possessive adjectives

Possessive adjectives are used to show ownership or possession. For example: when you say 'this is my pen' - 'my' is a possesive adjective. In Italian, the adjective shows gender and number, and always agrees with the noun. Here are some exapmles to explain:1. questo è la mia penna - this is my pen. (since penna is a feminine singular noun, the possessive adjective is also)2. questi sono i miei libri- these are my books. (since libri is a masculine plural noun, the possesive adjective is too)3. È il tuo letto - It is your bed. (Bed is a masculine singular noun, so the possessive adjective is too)Here is a table to show how the possessive adjective changes based on gender and number:my         il mio    la mia   i miei  le mieyour (oftu)   il tuo    la tua    i tuoi  le tueyour (ofLei)  il Suo   la Sua   i Suoi   le Suehis, her, its  il suo   la sua   i suoi   le sueour        il nostro la nostra i nostri  le nostreyour (ofvoiil vostro  la vostra i vostri  le vostreyour (ofLoro)il Lorola Loroi Lorole Lorotheiril lorola loroi lorole loroMain exception to the rule:Family membersWhen talking about a specific singualr family member, such as your mother or your father, the article is dropped. When talking about plural family members, the article is used.1. mio padre - my father (not il mio padre)2. nostra mamma- our mum (not la nostra mamma)3. mia sorella - my sister (not la mia sorella)4. mio fratello - my brother (not il mio fratello)5. le nostre sorelle - our sisters6. i tuoi genitori - your parents
