What is the difference between advertising and marketing?

These two words are often misused. Advertising describes billboards, television adverts and other methods a business uses to promote their product or service. Advertising is part of the Marketing process.

A Marketing department will handle product pricing, product distribution, public relations and market research amongst other tasks. Marketing is the management of a customers perception of a product.
