How much work experience do I need before applying to medical school?

This is a very common question and unfortunately there is no right or wrong answer. Medical schools want to see your commitment to pursuing a career in medicine and your motives for applying. Work experience shows you have taken the time to see first hand how doctors work and the challenges the job entails. It is not about how much work experience, rather about what you gained out of it and how these skills could serve you in your future career. Did you see good examples of doctor patient communication? How did the doctors deal with questions from patients and relatives? How did they work as part of a multidisciplinary team? These are all things worth thinking about and try not to get drawn in to talking about too many medical cases. You will have plenty of time (believe me!) to learn medicine. Admission tutors want to see you are prepared for that challenge.
