When do I use the subjunctive?

If you ever question when you should use the subjunctive, remember the acronym 'WEIRDO': Wishes, Emotions, Impersonal Expressions, Recommendations, Doubt/Denial (e.g. 'no pienso que', 'no creo que' etc.), and Ójala (which means 'to wish'). The subjunctive is also used to command someone to do something, or to ask someone to do something, where we would normally use an infinitive in English. For example, "I want you to go to the shop" translates to "Quiero que vayas a la tienda".
