How did Henry VII become King of England?

Henry Tudor had a very small claim to the English throne when he was born in on January 28th, 1457. Henry belonged to the House of Lancaster and the role Plantagenet line, through his mother, Margaret Beaufort, who was a descendant of Edward III. When Henry was young, Edward of York had seized the throne from King Henry VI, and he became Edward IV. Edward IV was looking to remove any claimants and to stop another war, so Margaret entrusted the care of her son to Jasper Tudor, Henry’s uncle. After the battle of Tewkesbury when Henry was 14, Jasper and Henry were forced to flee to France. When Edward IV died in 1483, he left two very young sons to claim the throne. Edward’s brother, Richard of York (Richard III) usurped the throne from 12 year old Edward V. Henry was now the only Lancastrian left to claim the throne. He promised to marry Edward IV’s daughter, Elizabeth of York, to unite the two houses after he won the throne. This descended into the Battle of Bosworth in 1485. Henry landed at Milford Haven, marched across Wales and met Richard in Bosworth field in Leicestershire. Richard was killed in the battle and Henry was crowned King on the battlefield.
