How does Bronte present Jane as a strong female character in this extract?

In this extract Jane demonstrates her intellectual strength through the eloquence of her passionate speech. Bronte uses a series of rhetorical questions to express Jane’s frustrations towards Rochester, repeating “Do you” at the start of each sentence. The use of rhetorical questions reflects Jane’s intelligence as it demonstrates her technical expertise in argument. The repetition in these questions also suggests her argument has been thought out and structured, further reflecting her intelligence, in that she is aware of the power of words. As an intelligent, educated woman, Jane is awarded a level of power and independence lacked by many women in her society who were never educated.
