What is the best way to go about preparing for the UKCAT exam?

This question is personal for every student! I can only share what I found most useful.

Start preparation fairly early, but do only a little in one go. You’ll commit techniques to memory and automatically know how to approach a certain question if keep doing it over a long period. Studying for the UKCAT is quite intense, so I only did short sessions at a time (apart from Mock Tests).

I went through the UKCAT candidates Toolkit (free on the UKCAT website), which had video tutorials on how to approach different types of question. I also used the Kaplan “Score Higher on the UKCAT” book and the 600 UKCAT questions book. I read over the general techniques given in both books first, without doing any questions. Then I did the questions in the 600Q book; this was really useful, as I found those questions a bit harder than the real thing/the Kaplan book, so when it came to doing those, they seemed a bit easier and I was more prepared. I also did all of the mock tests on the UKCAT website, which was probably the most useful thing as it gave you an idea of how the test actually worked on the computer. Right from the start of my preparation, I kept updating a word document filled with tips I’d found genuinely helpful for each section.
