There are many components in choosing which medical schools to apply to. The first is to consider your strengths and weaknesses. For example, many universities use problem based learning (PBL) as the main form of teaching whereas others use a more traditional lecture format. Which of these would suit you better? Do you prefer working by yourself to gather the information and then consolidating your knowledge through groupwork as this is what PBL is based on, or do you prefer 9-5 structured lectures where you are taught the basics before doing your own reading around the subject?
Additionally, it is important to look at requirements such as BMAT, UKCAT etc. Which universities meet your academic profile the best?
It is also really important to consider the place itself. Would you like to stay close to home? Do you prefer a university that is based in a busy city such as London or Birmingham or do you prefer something a little quieter? As you can see there are many areas that you need to sit down and think about. At the end of the day, and at the end of 5-6 years you will come out with the same degree from any of the medical schools on offer but the main thing is to make sure you have chosen an institution which caters to who you are and what you want to get out of the course!
