Our Tutor Rep Scheme is back

We’ve been running our Tutor Rep Scheme for 2 years, and we’re excited to say it’s time to bring it back. As MyTutor continues to grow – now’s your chance to have your say in the future of the platform. Want to meet your new tutor reps? Check out this blog. Don’t worry if you missed out on applications this year- you can still be involved. Read more about the rep scheme below👇

What’s the Tutor Rep scheme?

The role of a tutor rep is to represent the tutor community to the MyTutor team. You get to play a big part in shaping how the platform works for tutors, through regular discussions with our team and the tutor community. As we’ll meet with 6 elected tutors each month, it’s a chance for you to tell us about the things that matter to you most, and get to know other tutors on the platform. And on top of that, you’ll be paid for your time repping for us.

What are Tutor Reps expected to do?

By having regular, direct contact with members of the MyTutor team, you’ve got the chance to really elevate the tutor voice and push for some big changes for tutors. A big part of the role is passing back feedback and suggestions from fellow tutors and attending monthly meetings with members of the MyTutor team.

Here’s a summary from one of our past tutor reps, Meg:

“As a member of the rep team, I attended meetings, monitored the Facebook group, and even got to try out new features of the lesson space before they went live! Each week, all of the reps would put together an agenda of things we thought needed discussing, based on what we had seen in the suggestion box and on the forum. We would then meet with MyTutor representatives, share our views, and record notes to give back to the wider tutor community.”

How can I get involved if I don’t want to be a rep?

There are many ways for you to get your voice heard even if you don’t want to apply. By actively giving suggestions to your nominated reps, and engaging with the monthly meeting notes, you can still make an impact. The aim as mentioned is to hear directly from a tutor representative – so your insight as someone teaching on the platform isn’t missed out. We’ll let you know how and when to get in touch with them when the time comes.

Does anything actually happen?

Many new changes you’ve seen on the platform have actually been a result of the Tutor Reps reporting back to the MyTutor team. Specifically for the lesson space, this includes being able to upload multiple files to the lesson space at once, fixing the highlighting tool, adding a pointer tool and adding some commonly used maths images and graphs that can now be added to the whiteboard. By attending meetings, reps come up with their own agenda beforehand and lead how the discussion goes based on all the suggestions they collect from other tutors. We just make sure the right people are there.

But don’t just take our word for it…

Hear from some of your 2022 Tutor Reps:

Katie: ‘Being a tutor rep was a really valuable way to learn more about the way MyTutor works, represent my peers and present my ideas for how the platform could be improved! I really enjoyed the experience and would recommend it to anyone thinking of applying’

Callum: ‘My favourite thing about being a rep was being able to feed into features in the lesson space. I was able to have input into things like fixing highlighting, maths tools, bug fixes, and hopefully some more of the ideas I gave will be implemented as well! It really gives you an insight into the company and how they work to help tutors and pupils’

Shakil: ‘Working with your fellow tutor reps to improve a community you are a part of, was an enriching and fulfilling experience – on top of working with great people! It’s a role I highly recommend.’

Meg: “The MyTutor Rep scheme offered me valuable opportunities to enhance my communication skills while contributing to a wider community of tutors. Being involved allowed me more insight into how MyTutor is run, and made me feel that tutors’ voices were listened to and respected. Equally as valuably, it allowed me to connect with other tutors on the site and hear their experiences, which encouraged me to think of my own tutoring practice differently. I would really recommend the Rep scheme to any tutor who is interested in improving the way MyTutor works and getting to connect with other tutors on the site. It really will be a fantastic experience!”
