A January update from MyTutor | Tips on tutoring and tax ⭐

Hello 2023! We hope the winter break has left you feeling refreshed and ready for the new year. We’re excited to help more teens achieve their potential this year, and to help you be the best tutor you can be. Here’s a load of advice to help you set off on the right foot, from tax advice, to lesson planning, to staying professional.

It’s tax return time ⏳Here’s advice from the experts at Earnr

If you earn more than £1,000 in the year from April to April, you need to declare your income and fill out a tax return. We know this can be really stressful the first couple of times you do it, so to help ease the pain, our friends over at accounting and finance app Earnr have shared their top advice, and answered some of your questions. Have a read now.

Help shape the future of MyTutor 🤝Message your tutor reps!

Last month you elected 6 tutor reps, and we had our first meeting where they brought their feedback and suggestions on how to make the platform better for tutors. And they’re super keen to hear from you! By sharing your experiences and feedback on MyTutor with them, you’ll help them be your voice and help us shape the platform for tutors.

See our tutor reps site for info on who they are, and how you can help them help you.

What’s happening at MyTutor in 2023?

With a new year already underway, we’ve got a few exciting things happening over the next few months:

New and improved features on the Tutor app📱 We’re continuing to make improvements, and we plan to make it available to all tutors later this year.

Groups Holiday Courses🏖️ We’re offering group courses that families can book, happening this half term and the easter holidays. We’ll be in touch soon with tutoring opportunities for the easter break.

Primary tutoring🧒 We’re currently running a pilot to try partnering with Primary schools for the first time. Watch this space!

New to tutoring or looking for tips? Here’s advice from an experienced tutor 📝

Teaching your first few lessons can be a bit intimidating though when you’re new to the game. Luckily for you, one of our longest-running tutors Rebecca has written a blog with advice on how to plan and teach your first lessons.  Read the blog here

Lastly, don’t forget to follow us on Instagram and TikTok for weekly tips on tutoring and uni life, and continue to share feedback on our tutor Facebook forum.

Good luck this term!

Thanks,

The MyTutor team
