MyTutor Updates

July update from MyTutor: Pay changes, career advice, free meetings & more

You’re probably enjoying a well-deserved summer break, but lots has been happening at MyTutor HQ and it’s time to get up to speed.

Changes to your pay, our price bands and fees from 17/08

As of the 17th of August, your tutor earnings will change. If you missed it, you can read about them in full (and what you need to do) here

We want to hear what you think so please fill out our survey here

And if you already told us – thank you. We’ve been keeping a close eye on everything we’ve heard so far, and written up a response here that addresses some of your main concerns.

Career advice webinar

  • How can I land a job in a field I have no experience in?
  • Is it worth taking a year out before dive-bombing into the grad market?
  • Can I use Chat GPT for applications?

If you’re asking yourself these kinds of questions, join our webinar (or watch the recording) and have them answered by our guest speaker. Pia is a Social Media Director at a top London marketing agency. She’ll be sharing her top tips for finding and landing a job you love.

Update: testing a money-back guarantee instead of a free meeting

Last month we told you that we’d be testing replacing free meetings with a refundable first lesson with a small number of parents. It’s early days but here’s what we know so far…

We’re seeing the same number of lessons booked overall, but around 20% of all first lessons booked are declined by tutors. To make sure you get lessons you can accept:

  • Refresh your availability (& hide your profile if you’re not looking for work)
  • Make sure your subjects are up-to-date
  • Turn on email & app notifications so you don’t miss a beat!

We launched this test based on your feedback that free meetings can be unreliable, so we’d love to know what you think about the test so far here

Check out our new safeguarding tool (so you’re ready if you need it)

Hopefully, you’ll never witness a concern to report. But if you do, reporting it quickly is extremely important. We’ve set up a new safeguarding platform so we can all log concerns safely & securely. We recommend you get set up and familiar with it now. That way you’ll be ready to go as soon as anything comes up.

Pupil results 2023 🍀

School tutors – we know you’ll be anxious to hear how your pupils got on in their exams. So this year we’ve set up a process that allows pupils to share their results safely with you.

If pupils want to share their results with you, their school will let us know. Then we’ll send you an email with their name, the subject you taught them, and all importantly the grade they received. It’s simple, secure and safe.

And last but not least, 2 (much requested) new lesson space features!

  • Pupil is typing… From now on, you’ll be able to see when your pupils are crafting a response in the chat.
  • Plus, the default pen colour is now black 👏🏻 (goodbye angry red pen).

And finally, thanks again for your hard work this academic year. Together we’ve helped teens reach their full potential and that’s something to be proud of. Enjoy the rest of your break and we’ll catch up with you again next month.

Thanks,

The MyTutor Team
