5 reasons for uni students to become an online tutor

This is a guest blog written by Karina Jutlla, an A Level Psychology tutor on MyTutor.

Tutoring is a great way to boost your income and develop your professional skills.

It’s flexible, rewarding, and seeing your students excel can give you a sense of personal satisfaction.

Still not convinced? Here are just some of the reasons why you should become a tutor too:

  1. You can easily fit it into your schedule

Typically, tutors are self-employed. So, you’ll have the flexibility to schedule your work according to the times that suit you best. This means you can work as much or as little as you’d like!

Since lessons on MyTutor are online, you can work from the comfort of your own home – or anywhere else. As a university student, it’s great because you can easily balance your studies, tutoring, and personal life. There’s enough time to revise for your exams whilst helping students to do the same thing.

  1. It’s incredibly rewarding

As a tutor, you’re supporting students who want to improve in a subject and prepare for exams.

Tutoring is tailored to the student, and you play a key part in strengthening their knowledge and understanding of the subject matter to (hopefully!) achieve better results.

You’ll also receive feedback from parents and students about how your tutoring has not only improved their grades, but their attitude towards the subject too. It’s so rewarding to see a student grow in confidence, make progress, and start enjoying the subject because of your lessons.

  1. You’ll develop soft and hard skills

Tutoring will help you develop and improve on a number of skills:

Teaching experience – whether you want to become a teacher or not, tutoring is a great way to practice working with someone 1 on 1, breaking down complicated subjects and tailoring your strategy to an individual.

Organisation – planning lessons requires organisation. I’ve become more skilled at prioritising the topics my students need to improve on, managing activities and timekeeping so that my students get the most out of the lessons.

Communication – tutoring gives you the opportunity to interact with and teach a diverse group of people, which develops your communication skills.

Confidence – working with a variety of people builds confidence, increases professionalism, and prepares us to converse with different people in the working world.

  1. You’ll strengthen your CV

You will enhance your CV by adding your tutoring experience. It demonstrates your communication, organisation and professional skills. It also looks great if you’ve used the MyTutor training videos to improve your skills in your own time.

  1. You make good money

Tutors can earn more than in an average student job. Plus, there’s more earning potential, and you can do something that helps your professional development and makes you feel good at the same time.

So, if you’re looking for a job that’s flexible, rewarding, will provide you with more skills, strengthen your CV and where you can earn more as you work more, then I’d say tutoring at MyTutor is the job for you!
