Describe the events after the Battle of Gaugamela that led to Darius’ murder. Make five points.

Darius had fled from the battle of Gaugamela and been pursued by Alexander and his Companions until he had to return to help Parmenio in the battle. Alexander lost him and continued to Babylon. Later he learned that Darius was in Media and began the pursuit again. He heard that Darius had been arrested by some of his own men (Nabarzanes, Bessus, Barsaentes) and that Bessus had assumed the kingship. Alexander sent his best men after them but came upon them too late as Darius had been killed when Alexander’s men got too close.
