What transformations occur when turning limestone to quicklime then to slaked lime?

Calcium carbonate (limestone) is decomposed in order to form calcium oxide (quicklime) and carbon dioxide. The quicklime is then treated with water in order to give calcium hydroxide (slaked lime).
